Futsal is a fast-paced indoor sport where the main goal is to score by putting the ball into the opponent’s net. Each team has five players, including a goalkeeper. The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins.
The Court
Indoor hard court, approx. 38 meters long × 20 meters wide, marked with boundary lines.
Goals are at each end, with a goal area surrounding them.
Basic Rules and Gameplay
Starting the Game: The match starts with a kick-off at the center of the court. Players pass the ball to advance and create scoring opportunities.
Ball Size and Weight: Futsal uses a smaller, heavier ball than traditional soccer, reducing bounce and emphasizing control and short passes.
Ball Contact: Players may use any part of the body except arms and hands (goalkeepers are an exception within their penalty area).
Duration of Play: Two 20-minute halves with a 10-minute halftime. Some tournaments may include extra time or penalties if tied.
Fouls and Free Kicks: Pushing, tripping, or dangerous actions result in free kicks. Opponents must maintain a 5-meter distance.
Goalkeeper Rules: Only the goalkeeper may use hands and arms within the penalty area, may hold the ball for max 4 seconds, and cannot touch it again until played by another player.
Substitutions: Unlimited on-the-fly substitutions are allowed from the designated area without stopping the game.
