Snooker is a cue sport played on a large rectangular table covered with green cloth. Players use a cue stick to pot balls into pockets and score points. The objective is to outscore your opponent by potting balls in a specific sequence.
Table Layout
Dimensions: 12 feet × 6 feet
Pockets: Six pockets — one at each corner and one at the middle of each long side
Gameplay Basics
Starting Play: Players take turns striking the white cue ball, aiming to pot red balls first.
Potting Sequence: After potting a red ball (1 point), players pot a colored ball (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black) in ascending order of points. Colored balls are returned to the table until all reds are cleared.
Scoring:
Reds = 1 point
Yellow = 2 points
Green = 3 points
Brown = 4 points
Blue = 5 points
Pink = 6 points
Black = 7 points
Points are awarded for legally potted balls and deducted for fouls.
Winning the Frame: A frame ends when all balls are potted or one player concedes. The player with the highest score wins the frame. Matches typically consist of multiple frames.
Snooker combines skillful cue control, strategic planning, and precision shot-making.
