Volleyball is a team sport where two teams of six players compete to score points by sending a ball over a net into the opposing team’s court. The main goal is to ground the ball on the opponent’s side while preventing it from touching your own court.
Court Layout
Played on a rectangular court divided by a net
Each team occupies one half of the court
Gameplay Basics
Starting Play: A player serves the ball from behind the baseline to begin each rally
Rally: Teams hit the ball back and forth, using up to three touches per side to return it over the net
Scoring: Points are awarded when the ball lands in the opponent’s court or if the opposing team commits a fault (e.g., hitting out of bounds or failing to return the ball)
Sets and Matches
Matches are best-of-five sets
Each set is played to 25 points, but a team must win by at least two points
If a fifth set is needed, it is played to 15 points
Rotation
After winning a serve back from the opponents, players rotate positions clockwise to serve next
Volleyball emphasizes teamwork, quick reflexes, and strategic play to control the ball and outscore the opponent.
