Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a high-intensity, full-contact sport that combines a wide range of striking and grappling techniques to defeat opponents. Competitors can draw from various disciplines, including boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, judo, karate, and more.
The Octagon:
MMA matches take place inside a fenced arena called the Octagon, typically 30 feet in diameter, where fighters demonstrate their skills and strategies.
Basic Rules and Gameplay:
Fight Start: Bouts begin with fighters at a distance, signalled by the referee, or on the ground following a takedown.
Striking Techniques: Punches, kicks, elbows, and knees are allowed while standing.
Grappling Techniques: Fighters can perform takedowns, ground control, and submission attempts using wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or Judo techniques.
Submission Holds: Opponents submit using taps or verbal signals to avoid injury.
Knockout / Technical Knockout (TKO): A KO occurs when a fighter is incapacitated; a TKO happens if the referee stops the fight for safety.
Decision: If no KO or submission occurs, judges score the fight based on striking, grappling, and octagon control.
Weight Classes: Fighters compete within divisions ranging from flyweight (~57 kg) to heavyweight (>93 kg).
