Handball is a fast-paced team sport where the main objective is to score goals by throwing the ball into the opponent’s net. Two teams of seven players (six field players and one goalkeeper) compete, and the team with the most goals at the end of the match wins.
The Court:
The game is played on a 40x20 meter indoor court, with goals at each end guarded by goalkeepers.
Basic Rules and Gameplay:
Starting the Game: The match begins with a throw-off, and players pass or dribble to create scoring opportunities.
Movement: Players can take up to three steps while holding the ball and may dribble any number of times. After three steps, they must shoot or pass.
Passing and Shooting: Involves precise arm and wrist movements. The goal is to outwit the goalkeeper.
Defense: Defenders use man-to-man or zone marking. Physical contact is allowed but dangerous play is penalized.
Goalkeepers: Can use any part of the body to stop shots.
Match Duration: Two 30-minute halves. If tied, extra time or a penalty shootout may occur.
Penalties and Free Throws:
Penalties: One-on-one against the goalkeeper.
Free Throws: Defense must remain three meters away from the ball.
